Organized by the International Exchange Division of State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC),a series oflectures onEssential Qualities for International Conferenceswereheldby the International Exchange Department of Southwest University for Nationalities (SWUN) from 4thto 6thJuly, 2016.
The Keynote Speaker was Professor Pan Bangzheng, Director of Center for Asian Studies of Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Hong Kong. The lectures also had the attendance of faculties in charge of international exchange from universities affiliated to SEAC as well asuniversities inSichuan province. Deans of collegesinSWUN, secretaries of foreign affairs, as well as staff in International Exchange Department and a host of students took part in the lectures.
Prof. Pan obtained his Doctorate at University of Auckland, New Zealand after he attained his BA and MA at Taiwan University. He once worked asvisiting scholar in Institute of Politics Studies, University of Auckland,as visiting research fellow in the Hoover Institution, Stanford University andas guest professor inNanjing University.He is currently director of Center for Asian Studies ofChu Hai College of Higher Education, Hong Kong.
The lectures were dividedinto5 sessions, covering 1) forms and procedures of international conferences, 2) different roles in conferences and their correspondent English expressions, 3) planning and executions of international conferences, 4) structures and operations of conventional conferences as well as 5) preparation, organization and management of international conferences. The five well organizedsessions oflectures were delivered in an interactive and humorous way, with a high level of professionalism and appeal to the audience.
The lectures not onlyfamiliarizedthe faculties and students of SWUNwith thepreparation, organization and managementof international conferences and with the constituent elements of high-qualityones, but also informed them ofessential qualities andimportant skillsfor attending international academic conferences and makingpresentationsat them. Faculties from other universities spoke highly of the lectures and extended their gratitude to SWUN for providing the platform and resources.
