SMU Students Made Great Achievements in 2017 MCM

It is acknowledged on the organizing committee website of Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) that three teams of SMU won Meritorious Winner, and eight teams were awarded Honorable Mention, with its winning rate reaching 52.4 percent in 2017 MCM.
Six contest questions in total of 2017 MCM were equally divided into MCM category and ICM category. 14 teams of our school participate in MCM category, and another 7 teams ICM category (Interdisciplinary Contest in Modelling). It is worth mentioning that one group first won ICM champion this year, realizing its first place in both events.
The contest lasted 100 hours from 6 am on Jan. 20th to 9 am on Jan. 24th. 63 participants of SMU enjoyed their close coordination and cooperation to tackle modelling problems day and night. With concerted efforts, they finally got good results.
News Link: MCM/ICM is an international competition, hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application (COMAP), and sponsored by such organizations as National Science Foundation (NSF), Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The contest is usually held in January and February every year with lasting 100 hours each time, and starts simultaneously around the world. According to what released on COMAP, nearly 20 universities from countries and regions have participated in the competition and comprised of about 10,000 participating groups in recent years, including Harvard University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge University, Qinghua University and Beijing University
