IQTPR has built a High-Tech Research Demonstration Base for Eco-protection and Animal Husbandry in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Having requisitioned 1,000 mu (66.7 ha.) of land and leased 5,200 mu (346.84 ha.) of grassland, IQTPR has set up five centers with a usable area of 13,000 m2. They are the Centers of Experiment, Training, Conference, Exposition, and Logistics. In addition, it has instruments and devices valued over RMB 30 million. Currently, it has become a significant platform for domestic and foreign research on animal husbandry, eco-protection, social and economic development, and other issues of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Moreover, in association with other organizations, IQTPR has built five science parks covering over 300,000 mu (20010 Ha.) of grassland for scientific research, experiment, and demonstration. They are Plateau Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Park, Forage Resources Research and Development Park, Special Biological Resources Protection and Utilization Park, Eco-environment Protection and Restoration Test Park, and Ethnic Cultural Tourism, New Herdsman Village, and New Life Demonstration Park.

In recent years, faculty members of IQTPR have undertaken more than 60 state-or-province-level key scientific research projects in ecology, production, and life in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, such as Projects in the National Science & Technology Pillar Program and Special Fund for Agro-Scientific Research of Public Interest, receiving financial support of over RMB 75 million. Faculty members of IQTPR have won one first prize, three second prizes, and two third prizes in Scientific and Technological Advancement of Sichuan Province. In addition, they have published over 500 papers in Anim Reprod Sci, J Anim Sci, Science China, Agricultural Sciences in China, Journal of Genetics and Genomics, Chinese Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, and other periodicals. Over 10 scientific and technological achievements have been applied to production. IQTPR has provided more than 10 decision-making consultation reports for governments of all levels. This has yielded remarkable economic, social and ecological benefits, boosting sustainable development of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.
