School of Electrical and Information Engineering

Formerly as the Department of Physics, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering (SEIE) was officially established in September 2000. Currently, it offers a primary postgraduate program in Material Science and Engineering and a master’s degree program in Electronics and Communication Engineering. In addition, CEIE enrolls undergraduates in seven specialties: electrical engineering & automation, electronic & information engineering, communication engineering, automation, education technology, applied physics, and physics. Because of its excellent performance, the Party committee of SEIE was recognized as “Advanced Grassroots Party organization” in Sichuan Province in 2003, 2005 and 2011. 

SEIE has over 2,800 registered students and 93 staff members, of whom 10 are professors and 27 associate professors. And 41 staff members hold or are studying for doctoral degrees. The faculty members have earned various honors, with one listed in the New Century Excellent Talents Plan supported by the Ministry of the PRC, two reserve candidates for Academic, Scientific and Technological Research Leaders of Sichuan Province, and two members listed in the Young and Middle-aged Talent Plan supported by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the PRC. In addition, five faculty members have been funded by the “West Program” of China Scholarship Council, and three faculty members have won the Outstanding Teacher Award of Southwest University for Nationalities (SWUN). SEIE employs more than 10 visiting professors, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and experts listed by the Recruitment Program of Global Experts.
SEIE is equipped with advanced research facilities, including the Electronic and Information Engineering Lab (a key lab under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission), the Information Material Lab (a key lab in Sichuan Province), the Electrical Engineering Lab, the Communication Engineering Lab, and the Automation Lab and Basic Physic Lab. The total area of these laboratories amounts to over 8,000 m2, with more than RMB 30 million worth of equipment assets.
