The School of Life Science and Technology (SLST) was founded in 1951 with a time-honored history and profound scientific and cultural reserves. It has over 1,400 undergraduate students. Integrating natural science, agronomy, and industrial science, SLST offers five undergraduate programs: animal science, animal medicine, biotechnology, food science and engineering, and food quality and safety. Among these programs, animal science is recognized as a “featured program” by the Ministry of Education, and a “hallmark program” of Sichuan Province. In addition, animal science and animal medicine are designated programs to train undergraduates for Sichuan Province.
SLST is committed to providing superior programs. Currently, it offers two primary postgraduate programs in zootechny and veterinary medicine and two master’s degree program in agricultural promotion and veterinary medicine for over 180 postgraduates.
Paying special attention to the building of the faculty, SLST has enlisted a large number of high-caliber talents in recent years. In 2003, it won the title of Advanced Talent Development Organization in Sichuan Province. Currently, the school is home to 78 faculty members, including 26 professors and 24 associate professors. 38 of them hold or otherwise are studying for doctoral degrees. Of the faculty members, one has received the honor of ”national excellent teacher”, three are entitled to special government allowances of the State Council, and four are recognized as Academic and Technical Research Leaders in Sichuan Province. In addition, seven are reserve candidates for Academic and Technical Research Leaders in Sichuan Province. Furthermore, five faculty members are recognized as Excellent Young and Mid-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions in Sichuan Province, and 15 have the experience of studying abroad.
